You may wonder why I chose to study leadership, but the answer is simple— because too many leaders are not doing it correctly or effectively. Upon graduation from my undergraduate studies, I spent over twenty-five years working in various management positions with different levels of responsibility, first at a regional movie theater chain and then at a national electronics retailer. Through it all, I always

felt as though there was something wrong with the heavy-handed leadership methods used by my former employers. Unfortunately, I didn't know enough about leadership at the time to understand what it was.

While almost anyone can be a manager, I feel that leadership should only be done by those with a heart for it. It is true that many people believe that leading is about giving orders to others, but real leadership is actually about setting an example for others to follow. It is also about providing a challenging vision of the future that could be.

In early 2008, I felt called to return to school to pursue a Certificate of Graduate Studies in Church Leadership, and upon completion, enrolled in an M.A. in Organizational Leadership program. On track to graduate in 2012, my experiences have equipped me to help organizations navigate through the complexities of the global marketplace and are preparing me to provide Christ-centered leadership to organizations looking to compete on a global scale. I seek to assist organizations, businesses and churches either through outside consulting or through internal human resources departments to work for a better future by providing quality leadership principles for employees and the customers or clients they serve.

During the eight years I spent working for my previous employer, I witnessed many examples of what not to do in terms of leading and managing. I want to be a different type of leader - one who focuses on the will and the Word of Christ rather than on the earthly wants and wishes of man. My desire is to be the kind of leader who has a positive impact on the lives of my followers through an active commitment to Christ.

I am the type of person who drawn both to data analysis and theory as well as how that information can be implemented in a practical way. I enjoy delving into the theoretical bases of something to more fully understand the logic and reasoning behind it. I suppose you could say that I like to seek the answer to the question, "Why?" I feel that we must always be able to answer this question in order to justify our actions and beliefs. If the data supports a different conclusion, then the current course of action is no longer justified and should be revised. Our reason for doing something should never simply be because it has always been done that way even when it has proven ineffective.

My objective is two-fold: First of all, I strive to enable our clients to better understand why they do the things they do. But on top of that, I want to help them to discover alternatives in order to select the best possible or most preferable option. It's not about my telling someone what to do, but rather about our reaching the conclusion together.

I hold a M.Ed. in Christian Education and am currently pursuing a Doctor of Strategic Leadership (DSL) at Regent University. In addition to my teaching and ministry experience, I spent eight years working in retail management and have been working in electronic marketing in higher education for almost five.
